I take pictures because they help to make sense of this world we're in. Since 1972, I have been a photographer and teacher, making pictures for knowledge, for fun, for art, and for my living. Fathers: Jewish Fathers: A Legacy of Love, published by Jewish Lights, is a collection of stories and photographs celebrating the lives of contemporary American Jewish fathers. It is an epic story of struggle and success with a universal message for all fathers who seek to give their children the American dream, a life full of opportunity. Forty-four men are profiled in the book, from all walks of American Jewish life; from coast to coast, from old to young, observant and secular, free-spirited and disciplined, all striving to do their best with their families, to pass on their highest values, to be a mensch. Fatherhood is a central focus of many men’s lives,
yet it has often been under-examined. This book carefully and lovingly
examines
the parenting experiences and styles of contemporary men, drawing sage
lessons from the ancient Jewish traditions and disclosing poignant
and uplifting messages for today.
